Clay vs Outbind: which fits a small team in 2026?

Clay vs Outbind compared on pricing, credits, sending, LinkedIn and setup. Clay builds the data; Outbind runs the whole engine with no GTM engineer.

Clay vs Outbind comes down to who does the building. Pick Clay if you have a GTM engineer who wants to design custom data workflows across many providers. Pick Outbind if you are a founder, agency or small sales team that wants the whole engine run for you: finding leads, writing, sending, LinkedIn and replies, with no workflow to build.

Key points

  • Clay is a data and workflow workspace. As of October 2026 it lists "200+ data and AI vendors" and includes an email Sequencer on paid plans.
  • Outbind is an autonomous client engine. It maps your market from your website, then finds, researches, writes, sends and handles replies for you.
  • Clay paid plans start at $167 to $185 a month, depending on billing, with two meters: Actions and Data Credits. Outbind starts at $49 a month, and sending never uses credits.
  • Clay is the better fit for custom data jobs and big teams (unlimited seats). Outbind is the better fit when nobody on the team has time to build and maintain tables.
  • They can work side by side, joined through your CRM.

What is Clay?

Clay is a spreadsheet-style workspace for gathering, enriching and acting on go-to-market data. Its homepage describes it as "Infrastructure to get any data, run agentic workflows, and launch GTM plays."

Each row is a company or person, and each column runs an action, such as a data lookup, an AI research step ("Claygent") or a push to another tool. Clay's products include waterfall enrichment, CRM enrichment, signals tracking, audiences and an email sequencer. Waterfall enrichment is asking several data providers in turn until one returns a match (we explain it in our waterfall enrichment guide).

What is Outbind?

Outbind is an autonomous client engine for founders, agencies and sales teams. You give it your website. It maps your market, finds and scores people who fit (on fit, persona and intent, with the reasons shown), researches them, writes and sends from your own Gmail or Outlook, automates LinkedIn in the cloud, sorts every reply in one Unibox, answers people who want to talk with your booking link, and moves your pipeline.

Its AI is called Obi, and you run it from the web dashboard or WhatsApp. Autopilot sends on its own once you have OK'd the first leads, or you can choose to review every lead. Pricing questions, objections and anything unclear come to you.

How does Clay pricing compare with Outbind?

Clay charges on two meters and Outbind charges one flat plan where sending is free. As of October 2026, Clay's pricing page lists the Launch card at $167 a month and Growth at $446 a month, while its FAQ says Launch starts "at $185/mo" and Growth "at $495/mo". The difference matches Clay's annual discount ("Save 10%"), so the lower figures are what you see with annual billing.

Clay credits work like this. Actions are the steps a table runs, and Data Credits pay for data from Clay's providers. Clay's FAQ says Data Credits "start at $0.05 each" and Actions "start at less than $0.01 each". If you bring your own API key for a provider, you "skip Data Credit costs entirely and only use Actions". Top-ups on Launch and Growth cost a "30% premium".

Plan (as of October 2026)Price a monthWhat it includes
Clay Free$0500 Actions, 100 Data Credits a month, unlimited seats
Clay Launch$167 to $18515,000 Actions and 2,500 to 3,000 Data Credits a month, Sequencer
Clay Growth$446 to $49540,000 Actions, 6,000 Data Credits a month, CRM sync, buy managed inboxes
Outbind Pro$495,000 credits (up to about 400 leads), sending, 1 LinkedIn account
Outbind Pro Plus$9912,000 credits (up to about 1,000 leads), 2 LinkedIn accounts, more signals
Outbind Team$19925,000 shared credits, 3 seats, 4 LinkedIn accounts

Clay's page shows "3K data credits/mo" on the Launch card but "2,500 Data Credits" in its FAQ, which is why we show a range.

A worked example for a founder. Say you want about 400 new prospects a month, emailed from your own Google Workspace and followed up on LinkedIn.

  1. On Clay Launch you pay $167 to $185 a month. How many of those 400 people you can enrich depends on which providers and AI columns your table runs, because each one uses Actions and Data Credits.
  2. You or a contractor build the table, the scoring and the copy prompts, then keep them working.
  3. Clay's Sequencer pages describe email only, so LinkedIn needs a separate tool.
  4. On Outbind Pro you pay $49 a month for up to about 400 leads, with research, writing, sending, one LinkedIn account and the Unibox included. Sending never uses credits.

For three people, Outbind Team is $199 a month with shared credits. Clay has unlimited seats on every plan, which matters more as a team grows.

Do you need a GTM engineer to run Clay?

For anything beyond simple lookups, usually yes. A GTM engineer is someone who builds and maintains the data, automation and tooling behind a sales team (see what a GTM engineer does). Clay's own Launch plan is described as "For small teams building and automating prospecting workflows". The word that matters is building.

That is a strength if you enjoy it: any provider, any AI prompt, any scoring logic in one table. But a table is not a pipeline. Someone still has to pick the market, check the copy, watch deliverability and work the replies.

Outbind starts from the other end. Obi reads your website, proposes the market and the personas, and scores each person with the reasons it chose them. You check the first leads once, then Autopilot runs. There are no columns to wire.

Does Clay send emails and handle replies?

Yes, Clay sends email through Clay Sequencer, which a Clay blog post from 1 September 2026 says is "generally available on Launch, Growth, and Enterprise plans." The Sequencer page says it "sends it the moment leads qualify."

You can connect your own mailboxes: Clay's docs cover Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 by OAuth, plus any mailbox that supports SMTP. Buying managed inboxes and domains is "Available on Growth+".

For replies, Clay says "Each rep gets their own permissioned inbox in Clay" and that when someone replies, "Clay drafts the follow-up and posts it in Slack for reps to approve or edit before sending." That keeps a person in the loop on every answer.

In Outbind, Obi answers interested replies with your booking link, and a Flow stops the moment someone replies or books. Pricing questions, objections and anything unclear come to you. Email and LinkedIn replies land in one Unibox.

How do Clay and Outbind handle data quality?

Clay gives you the parts: you pick the providers, the order and the checks, so quality depends on how well the table is built. Outbind makes those choices for you. Enrichment uses a verified pool first and other sources only for gaps. Every field records its source, date and confidence, and emails are never guessed from name patterns. Every draft then passes 35+ pre-send checks before it goes out, and each message cites real sources from Obi's research.

When is Clay the better choice?

Clay is the better choice when data is what you are building. Choose it if:

  • You have a GTM engineer or RevOps person with time to build and maintain tables.
  • You need unusual data: niche providers, custom AI research prompts or your own API keys.
  • You want enrichment flowing into your CRM or ads audiences, not only into email.
  • You have a large team. Unlimited seats on every plan is hard to beat.
  • You want a free plan to experiment first.

When is Outbind the better choice?

Outbind wins when you want booked calls, not a data project. Choose it if:

  • You are a founder, agency or small team with no GTM engineer.
  • You want email and LinkedIn run together, with one Unibox for replies.
  • You want interested replies answered for you, with your booking link.
  • You want one predictable bill from $49 a month, where sending never uses credits.
  • You want to run it from WhatsApp as well as the dashboard.
  • You want data provenance on every field and no pattern-guessed emails.

Can you use Clay and Outbind together?

Yes, and your CRM is the natural place to join them. Clay's Growth plan includes CRM sync, and Outbind has two-way sync with HubSpot, Pipedrive and Salesforce.

A sensible split looks like this:

  1. Keep Clay for specialist data jobs, such as enriching your existing CRM accounts or building niche research columns.
  2. Let Outbind run the engine: finding new people, writing, sending, LinkedIn and replies.
  3. Let both write to the same CRM, so your team sees one record per company.

FAQ

Is Clay worth it for a small team?

Clay is worth it if someone on your team will build and maintain the workflows. If nobody has that time, you pay $167 to $185 a month (as of October 2026) for a workspace you do not fully use, and a done-for-you tool may serve you better.

What is the best Clay alternative for small teams?

For small teams that want results rather than a data workspace, Outbind is a strong Clay alternative. It finds, researches, writes, sends and handles replies from $49 a month, with no tables to build.

Does Clay send emails?

Yes. Clay Sequencer sends email on the Launch, Growth and Enterprise plans, from your own Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or SMTP mailboxes, or from managed inboxes on Growth and up.

How much does Clay cost?

As of October 2026, Clay has a Free plan, Launch from $167 to $185 a month, Growth from $446 to $495 a month and custom Enterprise pricing, depending on billing. Check Clay's pricing page for current figures.

What are Clay credits?

Clay uses two meters. Actions pay for the steps your tables run, and Data Credits pay for data from Clay's providers. Using your own API keys skips Data Credits but still uses Actions.
